All in Breakfast

Cardamom Vanilla & Chocolate Coconut Overnight Oats

I don't have kids and I don't start work super early but I'm the type of person who needs at least 8 hours of sleep per night and no matter what I do, I never have time to make breakfast in the morning. My solution to this problem is either making myself a jar of yogurt, frozen fruit and granola the night before, or throwing together some overnight oats.

Chile Cheese Pancakes

Despite having the biggest sweet tooth known to man, every now and then I wake up and can't handle the thought of something sweet for breakfast. This has resulted in a lot of savory Greek yogurt bowls and my finding this savory pancake recipe! They're a nice alternative to a sandwich and taste great even with just cream cheese spread on them. The serrano pepper adds a little flavor but very little heat so you don't have to worry about setting your mouth on fire first thing in the morning.

Green Smoothies (That Don't Taste Like Salad)

Anyone who knows me knows that I hate green juice. If I'm going to have a salad, I'd prefer to chew it. If you ever see me at a Juice Press, you can bet I'm ordering the all-fruit item on the menu. But I happened to have a lot of leftover baby spinach that was starting to wilt and my new year's resolution is to live a more sustainable life. Meaning, I'm trying not to let food go to waste (among other things) and needed to do something with said spinach. To solve my problem without eating a salad for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I made myself this green smoothie! The bonus is that it's full of vitamins to keep me going during these cold winter months.

Buttermilk Pancakes

It's Wednesday, and this is a four-day week for me because I'm heading to a wedding (no rhyming intended) in Arkansas this Friday! Inspired by the fact that my hotel is next to a Waffle House, I made some good old fashioned breakfast food.

Buttermilk Biscuits

I may have been influenced by five childhood years in Austin, TX, college in North Carolina, and my Georgia-born and raised boyfriend, but there is nothing on the planet that beats freshly baked buttermilk biscuits in the morning. They're nothing fancy, require no special equipment and have just a few basic ingredients plus buttermilk. Eat them with butter and jam, make an egg sandwich, or have them with gravy. You can't go wrong with biscuits.

Birthday Cinnamon Buns

Although today is not anyone in particular's birthday, February is definitely a month filled with birthdays in my family and friend group. Because of all of these birthdays I've been experimenting with a few birthday cake alternatives, for when a full cake isn't the most practical option. These birthday cinnamon buns are essentially the breakfast version of birthday cake. Perfect for breakfast in bed!

Breakfast Loaf

It's Thursday, aka pre-Friday, and it's high time for the freakin' weekend. The high on Sunday in NYC is supposed to be 13 degrees Fahrenheit so this seems like a good time to plan on staying in, wearing a bathrobe, and making lots of good food. And there's no better addition to a homemade meal than a good loaf of bread (other than wine, duh).
